Windshield measurement guide Tap to enlarge

1. Sit on your bike in normal riding position.

2. Look straight ahead — not up or down.

3. With a level or something flat, draw a line from the tip of your nose to over your bike dash. You can also look straight ahead and choose the measurement you are looking directly at.

Tip: Not sure? Ask us before ordering — we’ll verify your setup.

Most riders choose Medium Grey for the best balance of comfort, looks, and visibility.

Handmade in Pine, Colorado How your Freedom Shield is made 30% thicker than stock, distortion-free and hand formed. See the 5 steps behind your shield.
What Height Do Most Riders Choose?
Most riders want to look over the windshield, not through it. That’s the biggest factor when choosing height. You’re not trying to hide behind the shield — you’re trying to stay comfortable while keeping a clear view of the road.
If You Want More Comfort
Go slightly taller. This pushes more wind over your head and reduces fatigue on longer rides, especially on the highway or with a passenger.
If You Want A Lower Look
Go slightly shorter. You’ll get a cleaner, more aggressive look and still benefit from the AirCurve, but you may feel a bit more wind depending on your setup.
Between Sizes?
Most riders lean toward the option that matches how they ride. Long-distance touring riders usually go a bit taller, while shorter rides or city riders often stay lower.
What Is AirCurve?
Freedom’s AirCurve is what makes these windshields ride different, not just look different. The recurve at the top helps drive airflow about 2–3 inches higher than a standard windshield so you get cleaner air, less buffeting, and a more comfortable ride without needing to go overly tall.
Better View Without Giving Up Comfort
Because the airflow is lifted higher, many riders can run a shorter windshield and still stay comfortable. That gives you a better view over the top without sacrificing real-world wind protection.
More Stability And Strength
Freedom Shields are thicker than stock and many aftermarket options, which helps with stability at speed and gives the shield a more solid feel on the bike.
Clearer, Better Finished
You get crystal-clear optical clarity, hand-polished edges, and a cleaner finished look than the cheap distorted shields riders get tired of fighting with.
Exchange & Test Ride Policy
You do not need to guess and hope. Your windshield arrives with protective film on both sides. Leave that film on, install the windshield, and take a short test ride as long as visibility is good. That gives you a real-world feel before fully committing.
Exchanges
The original purchaser can exchange for a different size for full credit on the windshield, as long as it is still in new condition, the protective film has not been removed, and it is returned in the original box with the original packaging.
Returns
Windshields can also be returned for full credit of the windshield under the same conditions. First size exchange is on us as long as you spoke with us about sizing before ordering (continental U.S. orders). Return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility, and a UPS return label can be provided inside the continental U.S. for $25, deducted from the refund.
Important Notes
Laser-engraved windshields are custom and cannot be exchanged or returned. For exchanges or returns, contact us first at support@dreadediron.com for return authorization before shipping anything back.
Which Tint Should I Choose?
Most riders choose Medium Grey. It gives you the most balanced look on the bike while still keeping visibility practical for normal day riding. Tint choice is mostly about looks and personal preference, not airflow.
Clear
Best if you want the brightest view through the shield or prefer the most open, factory-style look.
Light Grey
A subtle grey tint without going too dark. Good for riders who want a little style while keeping visibility very easy.
Dark Grey
Best for riders who want the darkest, most aggressive look. Choose this more for style than versatility.

Freedom Shields windshields are built for riders who put real miles on their Harley-Davidson and want less wind fatigue, reduced buffeting, and a calmer ride at highway speeds. Designed and manufactured in the USA, Freedom Shields use a thicker, high-quality acrylic combined with a signature recurve design to push airflow higher and smoother over the rider — improving comfort without sacrificing clarity or style.

Compared to many aftermarket options, Freedom Shields are approximately 30% thicker, offering improved rigidity, optical clarity, and durability over long distances. Multiple height and tint options allow you to fine-tune wind protection to your riding position, whether you prefer a clean look with controlled airflow or maximum coverage for extended touring days.

Each Freedom Shield is built to order, not mass-produced. This allows for consistent quality and precise finishing, but also means a typical production and shipping turnaround of approximately 3–12 business days. This is intentional — quality and performance come before speed.

Your order includes free shipping, and every Freedom Shield is backed by 30-day returns & exchanges (film-on test ride). If you need to return your windshield, it must be in new condition with the original protective plastic film still intact, exactly as it was shipped. This ensures every rider receives a flawless product.

Freedom Shields are trusted by long-distance and touring riders who want a quieter, more controlled ride without guesswork — just proven design, solid construction, and real-world comfort.

Fit Check, Height and Tint Guide

This shield fits

  • Harley-Davidson Street Glide, Electra Glide, Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited and Tri Glide with the batwing fairing. Street Glide fitment is 2006–2023 (the model started in 2006); Electra Glide, Ultra Classic and Ultra Limited fitment is 1986–2023. Pick your years in Model Year: 1986-1995 (5 Hole), 1996-2013 or 2014-2023.
  • 2009–2013 Tri Glide: pick 1996-2013. 2014-and-later Tri Glide owners can also use the Tri Glide Trike Windshield (2014–2025).

This shield does not fit

The 1996–2013 and 2014–2023 options are the Touring style. about 3" wider at the base on each side and about 2" wider going up the sides than Standard. It is quieter and moves wind off your arms and shoulders and around a passenger. It may not fit with taller aftermarket handlebars.

Choosing your height

How the size is measured: Freedom Shields measures with a tape laid on the front center of the shield, from the top of the fairing to the top edge (the part of the shield you can see). Measure your current shield the same way to compare.

Look over the shield (most riders start here): pick the height that puts the top edge about level with the tip of your nose in your normal riding position. That gives you about 2" to see over the top while the AirCurve sends the wind higher.

Look through the shield: pick the height that puts the top edge about 2" above your line of sight. You get more coverage, but it is harder to see through when the shield is wet or dirty.

Still not sure? Put a strip of painter's tape on your current shield at the height you're thinking about (or tape a piece of cardboard to it) and take a short ride. Then use Ask a Rider and we'll check your height before your shield is built.

Choosing your tint

Tint is mostly about the look and glare. It does not change fit or airflow.

  • Clear – best visibility at night, in rain and on long multi-day rides.
  • Light Grey – takes the edge off glare and stays easy to see through.
  • Medium Grey – cuts daytime glare and still looks clean. It's the tint our riders order most.
  • Dark Grey – the darkest look and the most glare cut. Best if you ride mostly in daylight and look over the shield. Harder to see through at night and in the rain.

Test it with the film on. Your shield ships with protective film on it. Leave the film on for your test ride. If the height isn't right, contact us before you take the film off.

Made in the USA. Free shipping. Built to order: 3–12 business days.

Completely Eliminated the Buffeting

I was dealing with constant helmet shake and wind pressure on the highway. After installing the Freedom Shield, it was a night-and-day difference. The buffeting is basically gone and the air now flows smoothly over my head. I can finally ride at highway speeds without feeling beat up.

Way Less Wind Noise — Can Hear My Music Again

The biggest difference for me was the wind noise. With my stock windshield, it was loud and exhausting. With the Freedom Shield, everything is calmer. I can actually hear my speakers and ride longer without fatigue.

Shorter Shield — Better Results

I went with a shorter shield than I expected and it works better than my taller stock one. I can see over it clearly, and the air still goes right over my helmet. It’s cleaner airflow, not just blocking wind.

Should Have Done This Sooner

This is one of those upgrades you don’t realize you need until you ride with it. The difference in comfort is huge. No more constant wind pressure or fighting the bike on long rides. I wish I would have done this years ago.
