Road Glide windshield fitment changes with the fairing generation. Start with the correct application, then use your actual riding position to choose height — not rider height alone.

Choose The Right Fairing

Don't order by model year alone. Road Glide windshield fitment depends on which fairing your bike actually uses.

2015–2023 Style Fairing 2015–23 Road Glide plus certain later models that retained the previous-generation fairing, including RG3 applications.
2024+ New-Style Fairing Redesigned 2024+ Road Glide applications and the new-fairing CVO application.
Important: A newer model year does not automatically mean it uses the new-style Road Glide windshield.

Two riders who are the same height can need different windshields. Seat height, torso length, posture and riding position all change where your eyes sit behind the fairing.

If you prefer looking over the windshield, use the proper Road Glide measurement method and choose the shield around your actual sightline.

Measure From The Bike — Not From Your Height

Your overall height doesn't tell us exactly where your eyes sit behind a Road Glide fairing. Seat, torso length, posture and bar position all affect your sightline. The better approach is to measure from the bike while sitting in your normal riding position.

Sit In Your Normal Riding Position Put the bike where you can sit naturally with your normal seat, posture and riding setup. Don't stretch taller or slouch to change the result.

Use The Top Of The Vent As Your Vertical Reference For selecting height, measure vertically from the top of the Road Glide vent area toward your normal sightline.

Start Around The Tip Of Your Nose If you want to look over the windshield, Freedom Shields recommends using a height that puts the top edge roughly level with the tip of your nose while you're seated normally.

Match That Measurement To The Product Compare your vertical measurement with the size chart shown on the specific Freedom Shields product page. Don't assume a 12", 14" or 16" shield from another brand measures the same way.

Look Over The Windshield

Setting the shield around your normal sightline gives you wind protection while keeping an unobstructed view of the road over the top edge.

Especially useful when riding in rain, at night or when the windshield gets dirty.
MAXIMUM COVERAGE

Look Through The Windshield

A taller shield can create a larger calm-air pocket for highway, cold-weather and passenger comfort.

The tradeoff is that rain, bugs and road grime can affect visibility when your normal sightline is through the shield.
DON'T CHOOSE BY THE NUMBER ALONE
Freedom Shields measures windshield size along the front center of the shield. That published size is different from the vertical height you experience behind the fairing. Use the vertical measurement shown on the product page when deciding where the top edge will sit in relation to your sightline.

Better Wind Management Starts With Controlling The Air

A taller windshield isn't automatically a better windshield. The goal is to move turbulent air away from your helmet while keeping the sightline and coverage that work for how you ride. Freedom Shields' AirCurve is designed to redirect airflow higher before it reaches the rider.

AirCurve Recurve Freedom's recurve is designed to push airflow roughly 2–3 inches higher than a conventional windshield.
Cleaner Air At Helmet Level Redirecting the airflow higher can reduce the turbulence, helmet shake and wind noise that make highway miles tiring.
More Protection Without Going Huge The AirCurve allows riders to use a shorter windshield while still maintaining more wind protection than height alone would suggest.

Touring Or Sport Touring?

On Road Glide applications where both profiles are offered, the right choice comes down to how much wind coverage you want and how your bike is set up.

Bar clearance matters: Taller aftermarket handlebars can interfere with the wider Touring profile. If your bars sit farther back or outside the normal fork angle, verify clearance first.
SPORTIER PROFILE
Sport Touring

Cut in approximately 2 inches on each side compared with the Touring profile, while still providing substantial wind protection.

Still built for touring: Sport Touring gives up some side-to-side wind coverage versus the wider Touring profile, but it remains designed to move airflow around the rider.

Choose Touring if... You prioritize maximum wind protection, passenger comfort and a larger calm-air pocket for long-distance riding.
Choose Sport Touring if... You want strong wind management with a narrower profile, sportier appearance or additional clearance for taller aftermarket bars.

Profile availability can vary by Road Glide application. Use the options shown on the specific windshield product page for your year and fairing. If Touring or Sport Touring isn't listed for that application, don't assume another Road Glide version will interchange.

BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE FILM

Make Sure The Height Is Right First

Freedom Shields arrive with protective film on the windshield. Leave it in place until you've confirmed the fit, height and sightline. Once that film is removed, exchanging the shield can become much more difficult.

Leave The Protective Film On Don't peel it off just because the windshield arrived. Keep both sides protected while you verify the size.

Install And Check Your Sightline Sit on the bike in your normal riding position and confirm where the top edge falls in relation to your eyes and preferred sightline.

Make Sure You're Comfortable With The Height Check your normal forward view before committing to the shield. A size that looks right standing next to the bike can feel very different from the saddle.

Then Remove The Film Once you're confident the fit and height are right, remove the protective film and enjoy the finished windshield.
DON'T GUESS AFTER THE FILM IS OFF
If you're unsure about the height, contact us before removing the protective film. It's much easier to work through a possible size change while the windshield is still protected and in like-new condition.
WRONG HEIGHT?
Your first windshield size exchange is on us. Keep the protective film intact and the windshield in like-new condition. If the height isn't right, contact us and we'll help get you into the better size.
