On applicable 2017-and-newer Harley-Davidson three-wheel models, the longer factory catalytic converter can limit swingarm clearance as the suspension extends. The Super Shox extension pipe creates the additional clearance needed to use the full travel of the 14.5-inch shocks.

## Super Shox SR1 Premier Rear Shocks
**2017–2025 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler**
**14.5-Inch Long-Travel Trike Suspension — Built Around Your Setup**
Super Shox SR1 Premier rear shocks are engineered specifically for Harley-Davidson three-wheel models. Each set is configured around your rider weight, passenger weight and typical luggage load—not pulled from a shelf with a generic setup.
For Freewheeler riders, that means better suspension control across rough pavement, expansion joints, corners, inclines and long days carrying real touring weight.
---
## Built Specifically for Harley Freewheeler Riders
A Harley-Davidson Freewheeler carries and manages rear weight differently from a traditional two-wheel motorcycle. Its suspension needs to control that weight without making the ride unnecessarily harsh.
Super Shox SR1 Premier trike shocks are designed to provide:
- Smoother response over rough pavement
- Reduced harshness through bumps and expansion joints
- Better stability and control under load
- Less side-to-side disruption on uneven roads
- Greater confidence through corners and inclines
- Improved comfort for both rider and passenger
SR1 remains the correct Super Shox platform whether you ride your Freewheeler solo, two-up or loaded with gear.
---
## Why Super Shox Recommends 14.5-Inch Shocks
The 14.5-inch SR1 setup provides more usable suspension travel than the shorter configuration. This gives the suspension additional room to absorb bumps and control the rear of the trike.
Benefits include:
- Increased suspension travel
- Better bump absorption
- Improved stability and handling
- Better muffler clearance on inclines
- More controlled performance under passenger and luggage load
The 14.5-inch shocks install using the factory shock mounting locations. They should not be combined with a separate trike lift kit—the longer shocks replace the need for one while providing additional suspension travel.
---
## Built Around Your Rider and Load
Every SR1 set is configured using your actual riding information:
- Rider weight
- Passenger weight
- Solo or two-up use
- Typical luggage and gear weight
- Motorcycle model and year
This provides an appropriate starting setup from the first ride. Preload can then be adjusted to account for changes in passenger or luggage load.
Your information is reviewed before the shocks are submitted for production. If anything appears incorrect or incomplete, Dreaded Iron Moto will contact you before the build moves forward.
---
## Made in the USA and Individually Tested
Every set of Super Shox SR1 Premier trike shocks is:
- Precision-machined in the USA
- Hand-assembled
- Individually dyno-tested
- Serial-numbered for traceability
- Built with application-specific spring and damping configurations
This is rider-specific American-made suspension—not a generic replacement shock.

## Exhaust Extension Requirements
For a **2017–2025 Freewheeler using 14.5-inch shocks with the factory head pipe and catalytic converter**, the Super Shox exhaust extension is required to provide proper swingarm-to-exhaust clearance.
Choose:
- **With Exhaust Extension** if the factory head pipe and catalytic converter are still installed
- **Without Exhaust Extension** only if the Super Shox extension is already installed or your exhaust configuration provides the necessary clearance
If you are unsure, use the exhaust-extension dropdown above or contact Dreaded Iron Moto. We review your selection before the shocks are built.

## What Freewheeler Riders Can Expect
Many riders upgrade their Freewheeler suspension because the factory ride feels harsh, unsettled or tiring over imperfect roads.
A correctly configured SR1 setup can provide:
- A smoother, more composed ride
- Less harsh impact through the seat and handlebars
- Better control with a passenger or luggage
- A more planted rear end through corners
- Reduced fatigue during longer rides
- More predictable handling across changing road surfaces
The objective is not simply to make the suspension softer. It is to improve comfort while maintaining the control a heavy three-wheel motorcycle requires.
---
Installation
- Direct replacement using the factory shock mounting locations
- No separate lift kit should be used with the 14.5-inch shocks
- Exhaust extension required with the applicable factory exhaust configuration
- Shocks mount inverted to provide access to the preload adjustment collar
- Professional installation is recommended if you are not comfortable performing suspension work
Lifting the rear of the trike to unload the suspension makes preload adjustment easier. Once the preferred setting is established, most riders do not need to adjust it frequently.
